Who It’s For

Designed for ages 9-18 who love experimenting and want to explore art beyond traditional paint and pencil. Perfect for curious young artists who enjoy combining different materials and techniques to make something truly original.

What They’ll Learn

In this 7-week course, students will:

• Experiment with a variety of materials such as paint, collage, fabric, paper, and found objects
• Explore texture, layering, and composition to add depth and interest to their work
• Learn how different mediums interact and how to creatively combine them
• Complete unique mixed media projects that express personal style and imagination

Why It Matters

Mixed media is all about pushing boundaries and thinking outside the box. By layering textures and combining materials, students will develop strong technical skills such as composition, balance, color harmony, and the use of contrast to create visual impact. This class encourages problem-solving, experimentation, and self-discovery in a fun, supportive environment.

Instructor Bio

Led by Mira Armstrong, an OCAD graduate and professional artist with many years of experience teaching all age groups. Mira’s expertise in multiple mediums makes her the perfect guide for young artists exploring texture, layering, and creative experimentation.

End Experience

By the end of the course, students will have created a collection of mixed media works, including a final layered piece that showcases their skills in texture, composition, and creative material use.

(Projects change each semester, so students can re-enroll and always learn something new!)

Available for All Ages
These stand-alone enrichment classes let students dive deep into a specific theme or medium outside of the core track. Great as a complement to our Portfolio or Pre-Portfolio programs—or simply for fun!
