Arts on Fire

Perfect for ages 5-8 who love painting and drawing, exploring new ideas, and playing with color and design concepts. No experience required — just curiosity and enthusiasm!

What They’ll Learn

In this 9-week course, kids will:

• Experiment with painting and drawing in different styles each week
• Try new tools and techniques in a low-pressure, fun environment
• Create a brand-new artwork every class to take home and share
• Discover what kinds of art they enjoy most through playful exploration

Why It Matters

Exploring art helps kids discover what they love while building creativity, focus, self-expression, and fine motor skills. This class emphasizes fun and variety over perfection — giving students the freedom to try new things and grow their confidence as young artists - all in a safe, inspiring environment.

Instructor Bio

Taught by Colleen Jackson, a Fine Arts major at Durham College and an experienced art educator passionate about helping young artists find their creative voice. Colleen excels at breaking down technical concepts into simple, engaging steps that even five-year-olds can confidently grasp. Whether guiding students through painting or drawing, she creates a warm, encouraging environment where every child can flourish. Watch your young artist blossom under Colleen’s direction!

End Experience

By the end of the session, students will have completed nine pieces of art exploring different mediums, techniques and styles, and will take home a collection of pieces that showcase their creativity and progress.
